Check of level and concentration of cooling liquid

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

 Do not allow hit of antifreeze on open sites of a body and the painted car surfaces. Immediately wash away casual splashes a plentiful amount of water. Remember that antifreeze is extremely toxic liquid and its hit in an organism even in small amounts is fraught with the most serious consequences, up to a lethal outcome. Never leave antifreeze stored in leaky closed container, immediately collect the cooling liquid spilled on a floor. Remember that the sweetish smell of antifreeze can draw to itself attention of children and animals. About ways utilization of the fulfilled cooling liquid consult with local authorities, - in many regions of the world special points on different reception of working off are equipped. Do not merge old cooling liquid in the sewerage and on the earth at all!


 Recently nontoxical grades of antifreeze are developed, nevertheless, they also had to be utilized in an organized order.

1. Regularly, according to the Schedule of routine maintenance of the car (see the Section Schedule of Routine Maintenance of Subaru Legacy and Outback Cars), the cooling system has to be emptied, washed out and be filled with fresh mix of antifreeze with water. Such service allows to prevent development of corrosion in a cooling path and considerably increases efficiency of functioning of system.
2. During service also the condition of all hoses of system and a cover of a jellied mouth of a radiator without fail has to be checked (see the Section Check of a Condition of Components of the Cooling System). Defective components are subject to replacement. Do not forget about precautionary measures which have to be observed at service of the cooling system (see the prevention at the beginning of the Section). Remember that the fulfilled cooling liquid is subject to utilization and should not merge in the sewerage at all.
3. All models of cars described in the present manual are equipped with the cooling system of compensation type working with an excessive pressure. The broad tank of the cooling system made of translucent plastic is located in the left forward corner of a motive compartment closely to the battery and connected by an overflow hose to the basis of a jellied mouth of a radiator. At warming up of the engine cooling liquid extends, and its surplus flows via the valve which is built in in a cover of a jellied mouth of a radiator, in a broad tank. In process of cooling, liquid comes back on a hose in a radiator that allows to support constantly in norm its level in system.

 Do not uncover a jellied mouth of a radiator / a broad tank at the hot engine at all!

4. Level of cooling liquid in a broad tank is checked on a regular basis and has to be supported between the marks of FULL and LOW applied on a wall of the tank made of translucent plastic. It is necessary to remember that the level of cooling liquid depends on its temperature therefore it has to be in a cold state only slightly above lower (LOW), and after warming up of the engine - to rise to FULL mark. In case of need make the corresponding adjustment, having added in a tank through a mouth the demanded quantity is fresher than mix.

 For adjustment of level of liquid use only the demanded structure mix of ethylene glycol and the distilled water (about 50/50). Remember that frequent application for this purpose leads idle time of water to gradual fluidifying of antifreeze and losing by mix of frost resistance and anticorrosive properties. It is also not necessary to abuse various type additives.

5. Continuous falling of level of cooling liquid usually testifies to development of leaks in system. Check a radiator, connecting hoses, a cover of a jellied mouth, drain traffic jams and the case of the water pump for existence of traces of leaks. If it is not possible to reveal any signs of leaks, it is necessary to make check of a cover of a radiator pressure in the conditions of a workshop of car service.

 Do not uncover a radiator / a broad tank at the hot engine at all!

6. In need of removal of a cover of a radiator wait for full cooling of the engine, then wind a mouth with a thick layer of rags and slowly turn off a cover to the first emphasis. If thus there is steam emission, let's the engine cool down a little more, only after it finally uncover. Having uncovered, check correctness of landing on it rubber sealants, in case of need make replacement.
7. Besides level always check also a condition of cooling liquid, - it has to be rather transparent. If cooling liquid is painted in henna-red color of a rust, the cooling system has to be emptied, washed out and filled with fresh mix of antifreeze with water. Even if liquid externally is not exposed to any changes, the corrosion inhibitors which are its part are exposed eventually to development therefore cooling liquid has to be replaced regularly according to the Schedule of routine maintenance of the car (see the Section Schedule of Routine Maintenance of Subaru Legacy and Outback Cars).
8. Try not to allow hits of antifreeze on open sites of skin or the painted surfaces of body components. Immediately wash away casual splashes a plentiful amount of water.

9. Observe interrelation of concentration of Subaru antifreeze and temperature of freezing of cooling liquid. A ratio between these sizes. For obtaining information on safe working temperature it is necessary to measure the specific weight of cooling liquid. For example, if temperature of cooling liquid makes 25 °C at the specific weight 1.054, concentration of antifreeze makes 35% (A point), the safe working temperature of such mix makes -14 °C (a point In), and a freezing point - -20 °C (a point C).


Replacement of cooling liquid

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

 Do not uncover a radiator / a broad tank at the hot engine at all!

1. For the purpose of providing a free access to the pallet of a case and to an oil filter hang out the car on the elevator, tire out it on a platform, or and establish to a poddomkratta on props.

 Do not perform any works under the car, the lifted situation withheld in only as a jack at all!

2. At the corresponding complete set remove protection of a case.
3. Place suitable capacity under a drain bolt.
4. Weaken and turn out a drain bolt.

5. For procedure acceleration plum open a radiator cover.

 Track that the following liquid did not spill by drain capacity.

6. Having completely emptied system, wash out a radiator the clear water pumped from a garden hose, - continue washing until the pure transparent stream does not start following from the top hose.
7. In cases of especially strong pollution or violation of passability of a radiator, remove the last (see the Head of the Cooling system, heating) and bring him for recovery repair and service in a workshop of car service. Products of corrosion and dense deposits are removed from a path of the cooling system by chemical processing, - follow instructions of manufacturers of the cleaner acquired by you.

 At regular performance of procedures of washing of system and replacement of cooling liquid need for carrying out chemical processing of a path should not arise.

8. Disconnect an overflow hose from a broad tank and wash out the last clear water. Again connect a hose.
9. Densely wrap a drain bolt.
10. Slowly fill in the prepared cooling liquid in a radiator through a bulk mouth, then add cooling liquid in a broad tank to the FULL level.

 The authorized Subaru cooling liquid contains the antifreeze and anticorrosive additives which are specially developed for the Subaru engines equipped with an aluminum case. In order to avoid development of corrosion of a case always use only the authorized Subaru cooling liquid.

11. Densely close a radiator cover.
12. Start the engine and let's it work within not less than 5 minutes with turns 2000 ÷ 3000 in a minute for warming up of a radiator and removal from a cooling path of air traffic jams.
13. Kill the engine and wait for cooling of cooling liquid. If the level of liquid fell, repeat procedure.
14. After performance of necessary adjustment of level of liquid densely close covers of a radiator and a broad tank of the cooling system.
