General information

The speedometer, tachometer, the fuel reserve measuring instrument, the engine temperature measuring instrument, and also various control lamps and light indicators are a part of a combination of devices.

Principle of functioning of components

Control lamps and light indicators

The scheme of functioning of control lamps and light is presented in table 26.

* 2: At ignition inclusion the lamp is activated approximately for 2 seconds, then has to go out

Speedometer

 Speed of 60 km/h corresponds to development of 2548 alarm impulses in a minute.


On all cars considered in the present manual the speedometer of electric type using the signals developed by the sensor of the speed (VSS) as the entering information (4 impulses on one turn of the conducted sensor shaft), - models with RKPP, or the module of management of transmission (TCM), - models with AT is used. The scheme of the organization of the drive of a speedometer is submitted on an illustration.

 Speed signals from VSS/TCM are given also for modules of engine management (ECM) and tempostat.


Refusal of application of the rotating driving cable as on speedometers with the mechanical drive, allows to reduce the level of the noise background published by transmission and also to avoid such unpleasant moments as a detachment of tips of a cable and vibration of the strelochny index.

Sensor of the speed (VSS)

The inductive sensor of the Hall is the basis for a design of VSS. The sensor is installed on a case of transmission and traces the frequency of rotation of an output shaft of the last, generating 4 alarm impulses on one turn of a shaft of a rotor gear wheel.

Rotation of a driving key forces to rotate a magnetic ring that leads to change of a magnetic field of the sensor of the Hall which starts developing the corresponding alarm impulses (on 4 on one turn of a key) which are given out on a combination of devices, ECM and the module of management of a tempostat.

Tachometer

The chain of the drive of a tachometer is connected to a contour of monitoring of turns of the ECM engine. Change of frequency of rotation of a cranked shaft of the engine leads to directly proportional change to tension in a contour in turn leading to change of magnetic force in a tachometer drive winding.

Measuring instrument of temperature of cooling liquid

The measuring instrument of temperature belongs to type of measuring instruments with the crossing windings.

Information on temperature of cooling liquid arrives from the thermosensitive element established on the engine which resistance changes according to changes of temperature of the under control environment. Change of current involves measurement of magnetic force of a winding and the strelochny index of the measuring instrument forces to move at the demanded size.

At a normal working temperature of the engine (70 ÷ 100 °C) of the shooter of the measuring instrument has to be approximately in a middle part of working range of the scale applied on the dial.

Measuring instrument of a reserve of fuel and indicator of the minimum stock

Sensors of a reserve of fuel are located in the main and auxiliary chambers of a fuel tank and have a float-operated design.

Resistance of a potentiometer of the sensor changes in proportion to change of provision of a float (see table 27).

 The measuring instrument of fuel consumption continues to issue indications even at the ignition key turned in the situation LOCK.

Need for use of two sensors is explained by design features of a structure of the fuel tank divided into two sections (main and auxiliary) due to the need of providing a place under laying of the driveshaft.

The processor of a combination of devices continuously traces the resistive signal developed by the sensor of a reserve of fuel and when lowering resistance to a critical mark (about 7.6 Ohms) and its keeping at this level within about 10 minutes / throughout 10 km of run provides activation of the indicator which is built in in an instrument guard.

The sensor of temperature of external air equipped with the built-in thermistor issues information on the user CPU which (at the included ignition) compares introduction data with the last registered indication of the sensor kept in his memory at ignition switching off (if that was made no more than 60 minutes ago) and displays the tachometer of the liquid crystal display which is built in assembly minimum of two indications. If the last switching off of ignition was made more than 60 minutes ago, CPU displays the display the indication registered by the sensor.

At a slow speed of the movement of the car heat stream developed by the power unit influences indications of the sensor of temperature, however CPU when receiving from VSS/TCM of the signal corresponding to movement speed lower than 10 km/h provides a conclusion to the screen of the display of the last value kept in his memory when the speed of the movement of the car made more than 10 km/h.
