Diagnostics of the general condition of AT Refusals of AT most often happen on one of the following five reasons:a) Decrease in efficiency of return of the engine; b) Violation of adjustments; c) Malfunction of hydraulics; d) Mechanical damages; e) Failures of the onboard processor / its alarm chain. Problem diagnostics always has to begin with the simplest checks: estimate the level and a condition of ATF (see the Head Routine maintenance), check adjustment of drives of gear shifting and a butterfly valve. Further, carry out trial runs of the car for the purpose of determination of efficiency of the made corrections. If it was not succeeded to fix a problem, it is necessary to drive away the car on car repair shop for more detailed diagnostics with use of the special equipment. The description of some of symptoms of violations of functioning of AT is provided in the Section devoted to problem diagnostics of knots and systems of the car at the beginning of the present manual. Primary checks
Diagnostics of leakages of ATF General information The majority of leaks easily come to light at visual check. Repair usually consists in replacement of the corresponding defective epiploon or laying. If it is not possible to reveal a leak source during external survey, act as it is described below. First of all it is necessary to exclude probability of a mistake in definition of the nature of leak. It is not necessary to confuse ATF to motive oil or brake fluid (transmission liquid usually has dark red color). For identification of a source of leak make short (some kilometers) a trip, then park the car over the outspread blank sheet of a cardboard. Later a couple of minutes the source of leak can be revealed in the wake of the liquid dripping on a cardboard. Attentively examine the suspected site and the surface surrounding it, paying special attention to joints of the interfaced pro-masonry surfaces. For the purpose of expansion of a viewing angle use a pocket mirror. If it is not possible to reveal a leak source still, carefully wipe a surface of the suspected site the rags moistened with solvent, then dry it. Make one more short trip, this time often changing movement speed, then again examine the cleaned suspected site. After identification of a source of leak, it is necessary to define and eliminate the reason of its development, and only then to pass to performance of necessary recovery work. Replacement of the damaged laying will not lead to desirable result if also the defect of the interfaced surface which led to a sealant exit out of operation is not eliminated (so, the deformed flange needs to be aligned). In the following subsections the most typical reasons of development of leakages of ATF and a condition which have to be executed that there was no recurrence are listed.
Leaks through pro-masonry surfaces Periodically examine the transmission case pallet. Check existence on the places and reliability of a tightening of fixing bolts, watch that on a cover there were no traces of mechanical damages (deformation of the pallet can lead to failure of the valvate assembly located in transmission). Via the pallet excessively hard tightening of fixing bolts, violation of passability of the ventilating line, mechanical damage of a sealing surface of a case of transmission, laying destruction, and also emergence of cracks or porosity of walls of a case are among the possible reasons of development of leaks. If laying of the pallet or a case of transmission is formed by a sealant pillow, the probability of the wrong choice of type of the last is not excluded. Through laying of the pallet can lead to leaks also overflow of a case transmission liquid, or increase of pressure of ATF. Leaks through epiploons and cuffs The most typical reasons of an exit of epiploons of transmission excessively high ATF level/pressure, violation of passability of a ventilating branch pipe, mechanical damage of walls of a landing nest, damage actually out of operation are among an epiploon, or the wrong installation of the last. Also the probability of damage of a pin of the shaft passed throughout an epiploon, or an excessive side play of the last as a result of wear of bearings is not excluded. Check a state and correctness of landing of a sealing cuff of the directing tube of the measuring probe. Periodically examine on existence of signs of leaks a surface around an arrangement of sensors of the speed (VSS). In case of need make replacement of the failed sealing ring. Leaks through defects in transmission case walls Formation of cracks or time in a transmission case body can be the reason of development of leakages of ATF, - consult at specialists of car service. Check tightness of nipple knots of connection of hoses of a cooler of ATF. Leaks through sapun and a jellied mouth Leaks through sapun ventilation or a jellied mouth can happen owing to overflow of transmission, hit in ATF of cooling liquid, passability violation sapuna / a ventilating branch pipe or returnable drainage openings. Trial runs Trial runs are necessary for the correct diagnostics of a condition of AT. There are two ways of carrying out trial runs. In the first case at a wheel of the vehicle there has to be personally an owner of the car that will allow checking to make sure of adequacy of skills of its driving to standard requirements to the gear shifting moments. In the second case pilot run is made in a safe place, free from traffic. During test operation of units of transmission, the engine and systems of their management is checked. Normal work of AT in many respects depends on a state and serviceability of functioning of the engine in this connection, during test arrival not less attention, than actually AT is paid to the power unit. Make sure of serviceability and absence of stress of switchings of transmission in all range of transfers (with 1 on 4) at the movement in a normal city cycle at the selector lever transferred to the situation "D". Check serviceability of activation of the kickdown mode for each of transfers of working range. Make sure of absence of stress of switching on a low gear when squeezing against the stop of a gas pedal. Estimate efficiency of braking by the engine when switchings "D" — "3" at a speed of 50 ÷ 60 km/h, "3" — "2" at a speed of 40 ÷ 50 km/h and "2" — "1" at a speed of 20 ÷ 30 km/h. On lack of sharp changes of turns of the engine at easy squeezing of a pedal of gas during the movement on the equal road make sure of serviceability of blocking of the hydrotransformer. Stop the car on rise with a bias about 5%, cock the parking brake and transfer the selector lever to situation "P", - at correct functioning of the parking mechanism the otpuskaniye of the parking brake should not lead to a car otkatyvaniye back. Make sure of lack of extraneous noises and vibrations during the movement and at gear shifting. Having finished trial runs, attentively examine a transmission case on existence of traces of leakages of ATF. Stationary check ("Stall-Test")
One more simple method of check of a condition of AT is Stall-Test. The essence of dough consists in definition of turns of the engine in the provisions "R" and "2" of the lever of the selector and at completely slowed down output shaft of AT (wheels of the car are blocked) and the gas pedal which is squeezed out against the stop (the butterfly valve is completely open). In size of these turns it is possible to judge serviceability of some elements of transmission. Naturally, the data which are taken off during stationary check cannot be compared on completeness to information received during pilot run. Nevertheless, it is necessary to remember that carrying out trial runs not in all cases is obviously possible, besides, competently the carried-out Stall-Test allows to estimate operability of transmission with the minimum risk of failure of its internal components. The main risk interfaced to performance of stationary check is potential possibility of an overheat of transmission with what refusal of many manufacturers of the publication of standard cards of turns of Stall-Test is connected. Nevertheless, Stall-Test enjoys wide popularity among the experts who are engaged in recovery repair of automatic transmissions for which producers of AT can issue the special bulletins made on the basis of carrying out intra-branch research works. Let's at once make a reservation that in order to avoid failure of internal components of transmission of Stall-Test it has to be carried out by the skilled mechanic. The main objectives of check of "Stall-Test" are check of serviceability of functioning of the converter of rotation (hydrotransformer) and an assessment of the holding ability of couplings of coupling / braking of AT. Thus one of fundamental conditions of carrying out check is serviceability of a state and adequacy of setup of the engine. Check is made at the working engine and the transmission put on transfer, - do not forget to cock the parking brake and to prop up wheels antiretractable boots. Before check estimate completeness of opening of a butterfly valve and check levels of motive oil, ATF, cooling liquid and oil of differential, - in case of need make the corresponding adjustments. Make sure. That the lever of the selector is in situation "P" or "N" and, having started the engine on single turns, during about half an hour warm up transmission, having brought ATF temperature approximately to 50 ÷ 80 °C. Having connected a tachometer, establish it so that the indications highlighted on a board easily were read from a driver's place.

During check performance the hydrotransformer has to provide transfer of the maximum torque that means full blocking of the reactor, failure of the roller obgonny coupling can to hydrodynamic braking of a rotor (pump) and, as a result, - to decrease in turns of the engine. Transfer to the power developed by the engine thus significantly decreases that involves essential deterioration of acceleration performance of the car at start-off it from a place; e) Turns of Stall-Test conform to standard requirements (see Specifications), - this result confirms serviceability of a state and correctness of settings of the engine, and also normal functioning of internal components of transmission (including the hydrotransformer). Nevertheless, it is impossible to miss possibility of blocking of an otpuskaniye of the reactor with refusal of transition of the hydrotransformer to the mode of the viscous coupling. If at full opening of a butterfly valve the speed of the movement of the car considerably (approximately on 1/3) decreases, it can be considered as a sign of "freezing" of the reactor. Thus acceleration at a small speed will normally happen, the movement in the cruiser mode becomes unstable due to refusal of an otpuskaniye of the reactor. Shovels of the "frozen" reactor partition off a stream of hydraulic liquid, reducing efficiency of transfer by the torque hydrotransformer. The similar situation is dangerous that through 25 yo 30 km of run in such mode happen to functioning of transmission ATF overheat conducting to pro-slippings and weakening of the holding effort. Transfer the selector lever to the situation "R" and repeat check for the purpose of an assessment of serviceability of functioning of the corresponding components of inclusion of transfer of a backing. Check of temporary delays On time of a delay of the push arising when switchings the lever of the selector on single turns of the engine it is possible to estimate a condition of the coupling of coupling of the lowering transfers and transfer of a backing, the obgonny coupling, and also the brake assembly lowering and back transfers. Check has to be made at heated-up up to the normal working temperature (60 ÷ 80 °C) of transmission liquid. The pause between checks has to make not less than one minute. For a guarantee of accuracy of results perform three measurements and calculate average value. Completely cock the parking brake and start the engine. Make sure that the conditioner of air is switched off and check idling turns. On AT considered in the present manual check of pressure in the line should be made, in case of identification of signs of pro-slipping of couplings of coupling or brake assemblies, and also in the presence of suspicions on violation of correctness of the scheme of gear shifting. Violation of absence of stress of the raising switchings, and also overestimate of points of gear shifting can result from excessive increase of pressure in the operating path of transmission. Excessive lowering of pressure can cause pro-slipping of brake assemblies and couplings of coupling. Preparation Check of pressure without loading The car also establish to Poddomkratta it on props.
