Check of serviceability of functioning of system of ignition

4-cylinder models

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

In view of the fact that in systems of direct ignition very high voltage is developed, service of its components has to be made with extra care! This remark belongs not only to the main knots of electronic system of ignition, but also and to all accompanying components, including tips of candle wires, a tachometer and the other diagnostic equipment.

1. If the engine is turned, but not started, disconnect VV a wire from one of spark plugs of the left number of cylinders and connect it to the special calibrated ignition tester (ask in shops of automobile accessories). In the absence of near at hand universal tester, track that the used measuring instrument suited for use in DIS systems.

Check is made only for candles of the right number of cylinders (cylinders No. No. 1 and 3), - as in system the principle of a single spark is used, need for check of pair cylinders disappears.

2. Connect a contact clip of the measuring instrument to a bolt or a metal arm on the block of the power unit, then turn the engine, - between an electrode and the case of a tester well distinguishable spark of bright blue color has to slip (weak intensity of a spark should be considered as its absence).
3. Existence of sparking confirms serviceability of giving of tension on VV candles, however does not exclude probability of refusal actually of candles.
4. If sparking violation takes place, check serviceability of giving of food for the coil. Check a condition of coils (see the Section Removal, installation and check of a condition of the module(s) of ignition) and sensors of provision of cranked (CKP) and distributive (CMP) of shaft (see the Head of the Power supply system and release).
5. Also check serviceability of giving of alarm tension for bobbin assembly. Having disconnected an electrical wiring from assembly, connect a 12-voltny lamp sampler to the positive plug of the battery. Attention: Use only of a lamp sampler on a light-emitting diode is allowed! Ask the assistant to turn the engine, then on a blinking of the coil of a lamp connected to the socket make sure of serviceability of giving of alarm tension. Repeat procedure for each of bobbin assemblies. Remark: As the module of ignition and ESM are among expensive components, performance of check of their state will be reasonable to be charged to specialists of car service.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. For check of serviceability of sparking remove bobbin modules from spark plugs. Without turning out a candle, put a new spark plug in the module of the first cylinder, bring it to the mass of the engine and, turning the engine at completely open butterfly valve, make sure of serviceability of generation of a spark. Working in a similar manner, check bobbin modules of the remained cylinders. At correct sparking in all cylinders check serviceability of functioning of the fuel pump (see the Head of the Power supply system and release). In case any of modules does not provide delivery of VV of tension of sufficient size (sparking is broken), address to the following paragraph.
2. Switch off ignition and disconnect an electrical wiring from the corresponding bobbin module, then turn the ignition key in the situation "ON" and measure tension between the plug No. 3 of the socket of bobbin assembly (E31, E32, E33, E34, E45 or E46 respectively) and the mass of the engine. If the result of measurement makes more than 10 V, address to the following paragraph. Otherwise find and eliminate break in an electrical wiring chain on a site between the bobbin module and the switch of ignition, check also a condition of contact plugs in connecting sockets.
3. Switch off ignition and measure resistance between the plug No. 2 of the socket of bobbin assembly (E31, E32, E33, E34, E45 or E46, respectively) and the mass of the engine. If the result of measurement makes less than 5 Ohms, address to the following paragraph. Otherwise find and eliminate break in an electrical wiring chain on a site between the bobbin module and the plug of grounding of the engine.
4. Disconnect an electrical wiring from ECM and from the checked bobbin assembly and measure resistance between the plug No. 1 of the socket of the coil (E31, E32, E33, E34, E45 or E46) and the plug No. 24, 23, 22, 21, 20 or 19, respectively, the ECM (B136) socket. If the result of measurement makes less than 1 Ohm, address to the following paragraph. Otherwise find and eliminate break in an electrical wiring chain on a site between the bobbin module and ECM.
5. Measure resistance between plugs No. No. 24, 23, 22, 21, 20 and 19 of the ECM (B136) socket and mass of the engine. If the result of measurement makes more than 1 megohm, address to the following paragraph, otherwise eliminate short circuit on weight in an electrical wiring chain on a site of ECM and bobbin assembly.
6. Connect an electrical wiring to bobbin assembly, then, check synchronism of level of tension between contacts No. 1 (+) of the socket of the bobbin module (E31, E32, E33, E34, E45 or E46) and the mass of the engine (-) to turns of the turned cranked shaft. If the absolute value of the measured tension exceeds 10 V, address to the following paragraph. Otherwise replace bobbin assembly.
7. Check quality of contact connections in the ECM (B136) socket. Make necessary corrections. If I corrode as it should be, check a condition of a chain of the fuel pump (see the Head of the Power supply system and release).
