The generator - the general information, check and service
Generator design
Schematic electric circuit of the generator |
At service of the generator follow the general rules of precaution during the works with electric devices! |
For a complete set of the considered models generators of alternating current, production of the Mitsubishi company are used. On type these generators belong to three-phase with the built-in rectifier. The design and a schematic electric circuit of the generator are presented on illustrations. Straightening of alternating current is carried out by means of the diode assembly consisting of three positive and three negative diodes. Exercises control of output tension of the generator the built-in regulator which also carries out diagnostics functions.
Continuous switching of a field winding of the generator the special transistor provides constancy of level of output tension.
For control of serviceability of functioning of the generator the chain of system of a charge included the control lamp which is a part of a combination of devices of the car. Treat number of the most typical refusals causing operation of a control lamp:
a) The generator ceased to give out tension owing to wear of brushes, break of a field winding, etc.; b) Tension which is given out by the generator exceeds 16B; c) There was an electrical wiring detachment from the generator plug B; d) There was an electrical wiring detachment from the generator plug S, - in this situation the generator will give out slightly increased tension, however the battery remains protected from a recharge due to correct functioning of the regulator of tension. Check and service
Diode assembly
Check of serviceability of a condition of the positive diode
Check of serviceability of a condition of the negative diode
Use in this check of the diagnostic units calculated on measurement of a high voltage is fraught with a rectifier exit out of operation! |
1. For check of diode assembly remove it from a back cover of the generator and serially check an ohmmeter conductivity of each of three diodes, - conductivity has to take place only in one direction. 2. Make sure available conductivity between the conclusion of the positive diode and a radiator located from a positive side of assembly of the rectifier. The diode can be considered serviceable if resistance less than 1 Ohm is present only at the direction from a conclusion to a radiator. 3. Check of negative diodes is made in the return polarity. 4. If any of diodes passes current in both directions, or does not pass it at all, all diode assembly is subject to replacement. |

Anchor
1. Attentively examine a working surface of a contact ring on existence of chips, roughnesses, zadir and traces of a podgoraniye. Insignificant defects can be eliminated by processing of a surface with a fine-grained emery paper, or or a protchka it on the lathe. At detection of ineradicable defects the ring/anchor is subject to replacement. 2. By means of a caliper measure diameter of a contact ring. If the ring is worn-out over an admissible limit (less than 22.1 mm), replace assembly of an anchor.
3. Measure resistance between contact rings of anchor assembly, - the demanded value makes 2.7 ÷ 3.2 Ohm. At noticeable deviations of resistance from nominal rate anchor assembly is subject to replacement. |
4. For an assessment of quality of isolation check assembly for existence of conductivity between each of contact rings and an anchor core/shaft. Conductivity existence (the indication of an ohmmeter less than 1 Ohm) testifies to formation of short circuit in a winding of an anchor and/or on a contact ring. The faulty anchor is subject to replacement. |
Stator
1. Make sure available conductivity between conclusions of windings of the stator. |
2. For an assessment of quality of isolation check the stator for existence of conductivity between windings and the core. |
3. In case of identification of signs of short circuit or break in windings the stator is subject to replacement. |
Brushes
1. Brushes are subject to replacement at wear to length less than 5 mm. Degree of wear of a brush can be defined also by means of a special service tag (A). For extraction of a brush from the holder it is necessary to unsolder the electrical wiring which is built in in it from the contact plug. |
2. Fill a brush in the holder so that its end acted on 2 mm and measure effort of compression of a brush spring, - if the result of measurement makes less than 2.65 N, the spring is subject to replacement.
The effort of compression of a new spring equals 4.6 ÷ 5.8 N. |
Bearings
1. Manually estimate smoothness of rotation of bearings. In case of need make replacement. 2. The back bearing is taken by means of a usual stripper. 3. For replacement of the forward bearing remove it the holder, establish a suitable mandrel on an internal holder, then squeeze out the bearing by means of a press or a vice. Install the new bearing as it should be, the return to removal. |
