Removal, check of a state and installation of the cardan hinge of a steering column

REMOVAL

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Tire out the car on the elevator.
2. Bring forward wheels of the car into rectilinear situation and remove a steering wheel (see the Section Removal and installation of a steering wheel).
3. Lift the car.

4. Turn out fixing bolts and remove the cardan hinge of a steering shaft, previously having marked its adjusting situation.

CHECK

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Carefully wipe the hinge pure rags and examine on existence of signs of mechanical damages. Manually estimate degree of wear of bearings of a crosspiece of the cardan hinge, - in case of identification of a little noticeable axial side play replace hinged assembly. Also check effort of resistance of the hinge to rotation (see in the same place), - limit admissible value makes 0.3 Nanometers.

2. By means of a dynamometer measure sizes of efforts of resistance of bends of the hinge to bending.

INSTALLATION

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Make sure of straightforwardness of installation of forward wheels, then, having tracked correctness of combination of bolted openings of a long collar of hinged assembly with reception selection, put a long collar of the hinge for the end of a steering shaft equipped with notches.
2. A short collar of the hinge put the pin of a shaft of the leading gear wheel of the steering mechanism (which is also equipped with notches), - besides track correctness of combination of bolted openings with reception selection in a pin.
3. Lower the hinge down to an emphasis and temporarily establish and tighten a bolt of fastening of a short collar, - checks of correctness of landing of a bolt in selection pull the hinge up.
4. Tighten a coupling bolt of a long collar with the demanded effort (24 Nanometers), then with the same effort finally tighten a bolt of a short collar.

 The tightening of coupling bolts of collars of the cardan hinge with excessive effort is fraught with difficulties at rotation of a steering wheel! The size of a landing gap between the hinge of double compensation and the steering mechanism has to make not less than 15 mm.

5. Further installation is made as it should be, the return to an order of dismantle of components.
