Check and adjustment of geometry of a suspension bracket

General information, procedure performance order

 Before starting measurement of corners of installation of wheels check pressure of a rating of tires, balancing of wheels, degree of wear of spherical support, tips of steering drafts and wheel bearings, a condition of components of a suspension bracket and the steering drive. Make necessary adjustments, replace the failed components.


Corners of installation of wheels define geometry of situation of the last concerning a suspension bracket of the car and a paving. Violation of adjustment of this geometry conducts to decrease in controllability of the car and increase of speed of wear of tires. The number of the parameters which are subject to control defining geometry of a suspension bracket of the car includes height of a road gleam, disorder (lobbies and back wheels), a corner of a longitudinal inclination of an axis of turn of a wheel, or vybeg (forward wheels), rotary corners (forward wheels), convergence (lobbies and back wheels) and a corner of a course deviation (back wheels).

Only the following parameters are subject to adjustment: disorder of forward wheels, rotary corner, convergence (lobbies and back wheels) and corner of a course deviation.

Check/adjustment is made in the following order: a road gleam (lobbies and back wheels) — disorder (lobbies and back wheels) — corners of a longitudinal inclination of axes of turn of wheels (forward wheels) — rotary corners of forward wheels — convergence of forward wheels — convergence of back wheels — a corner of a course deviation (back wheels).

Adjustment of corners of installation of wheels is among the procedures demanding the special accuracy of measurement which high-quality performance requires existence of special, rather bulky and expensive equipment. Performance of this work will be most correct to be charged to professional mechanics of car service.

Road gleam

Before starting adjustments of corners of installation of wheels it is necessary to check correctness of control of a road gleam of the car.

Tire out the car on an equal horizontal platform with a hard coating, establish forward wheels in rectilinear situation, then give a ride to the car about 5 meters of shrinkage of components of a suspension bracket forward.

Make sure of completeness of gas station of a fuel tank, check loading of the car, - in a luggage compartment there have to be only a zapaska, a jack and a standard tool kit.

Check correctness of a rating of tires.

Visually estimate uniformity of distribution of a road gleam on length and width of the vehicle. In case of detection of discrepancies make sure of absence in salon and a luggage compartment of heavy subjects.

By means of a plumb define the points of wheel arches located directly over axes of the corresponding wheels (And).

 


Measure distance from the chosen points on arches to an axis of each of wheels. Compare results of measurement to requirements of Specifications, - in case of need check a condition of components of a suspension bracket, replace the worn-out and failed details.

Disorder

 


The wheel plane tilt angle concerning a vertical is called as disorder. If wheels are inclined by the upper edges outside, disorder is called positive, and vice versa. The size of disorder is measured in degrees. Correctness of adjustment of disorder determines the size and the provision of a spot of contact of protectors with the road and allows to compensate the changes in suspension bracket geometry happening during commission of turns and at the movement of the car on a rough paving. Check of disorder of wheels is made at the special measuring stand.

Weaken samokontryashchiyesya nuts of two bolts of fastening of the lower support of a rack.

Adjustment of disorder is made by rotation of the top bolt of fastening of the lower support of a rack, - the bolt has an eccentric head that allows to change a rack tilt angle.

For increase in disorder of the right wheel the adjusting bolt should be rotated clockwise, the left wheel - counterclockwise, for reduction - on the contrary. Turn of a bolt on one division of a scale corresponds to change of disorder approximately on 0 °10'.

Having finished adjustment, tighten fixture with the demanded effort (175 Nanometers).

 Samokontryashchiyesya nuts are subject to replacement without fail!


Disorder of back wheels

Disorder of back wheels is not subject to adjustment.

The deviation of disorder of back wheels (see Specifications) demands check of geometry of a frame of the car from nominal rate. Also the probability of damage of cross levers of a back suspension bracket, and also wear of racks, screw springs and rubber-metal plugs is not excluded.

Corner of a longitudinal inclination of an axis of turn of a wheel (vybeg)

Vybegom is called a corner of a longitudinal inclination of an axis of turn of a forward wheel, i.e., a corner of a deviation of this axis from a vertical in the rim plane. If the axis of turn is inclined back, vybeg is called positive, on the contrary.

 By analogy, a cross corner an inclination of an axis of turn of a wheel call a corner of the deviation imagined shkvornya from a vertical in the plane, perpendicular DP of the car.


Check of a vybeg of wheels is made at the special measuring stand.

Vybeg is not subject to adjustment and in case of a deviation of results of check from requirements of Specifications it is necessary to check a condition of a frame of the car and elements of a forward suspension bracket (levers, spherical support, plugs).

Rotary corners

Internal and external angles of rotation of the operated wheels of the car of rather rectilinear situation at the steering wheel which is turned out against the stop are called as rotary corners of wheels.

Adjustment of rotary corners

If results of check exceed the limit of admissible ranges (see Specifications), adjustment of rotary corners can be made by pulling up / otpuskaniya tips of steering drafts.


Having finished adjustment, check correctness of installation of convergence of wheels (see below), make sure that protective covers of hinges of power shafts are not overwound and tighten lock-nuts of tips of drafts with the demanded effort (83 Nanometers).

Convergence

Data size to each other of forward edges of wheels of the car is called as convergence. Such violation of parallelism of installation of wheels allows to minimize wear of a protector due to prevention of a skid at commission of turns. At zero convergence distance between forward edges of wheels equally to distance between their back edges. Normal convergence usually does not exceed inch shares (1 inch = 2.54 cm). Violation of adjustment of convergence conducts to acceleration of wear of protectors of tires due to slipping them on a paving.

Check of convergence can be made by drawing on protectors of couple of tags from the back party of wheels at height of provision of axes of the last and measurements of distance "And" between them. Further it is necessary to give a ride to the car forward so that tags appeared from the forward party of wheels and to repeat measurement (size "B"). The size of convergence is defined by subtraction result of the second measurement from result of the first (And - In)

 


Adjustment of convergence of forward wheels

Check correctness of a rating of tires.

Check correctness of installation of height of a road gleam (see above).

Develop forward wheels of the car in rectilinear situation and block a steering column.

Weaken lock-nuts of tips of both steering drafts.

Adjustment of convergence is carried out by rotation of bars of drafts in tips in the respective direction, - both drafts should be turned strictly on an identical corner!

Having finished adjustment, tighten lock-nuts of tips of drafts with the demanded effort (83 Nanometers), - track that protective covers of CV JOINTS of power shafts were not overwound.

Adjustment of convergence of back wheels

Weaken samokontryashchuyusya a nut of an adjusting bolt from the inside of the back cross lever of a suspension bracket.

For increase in a convergence of the right wheel the adjusting bolt should be rotated against an hour hand, the left wheel - clockwise arrows, for reduction - on the contrary. Simultaneous turn of adjusting bolts of both wheels on one division of a scale corresponds to convergence change approximately on 3 mm.

Having finished adjustment, tighten lock-nuts with the demanded effort (120 Nanometers).

Corner of a course deviation

At an angle a course deviation the corner of a deviation of the diametrical plane (DP) of the car from the course direction of the movement is understood.

The corner of a course deviation is obliged by the education to violation of uniformity of corners of a convergence of back wheels.

For check of a corner of a course deviation tire out the car on an equal horizontal platform with a hard coating, establish forward wheels in rectilinear situation, then give a ride to the car about 5 meters forward. Also measure distance of "L" between the central lines traces left lobbies and back wheels. If the result of measurement exceeds limit admissible value (see Specifications), make the corresponding adjustment (see below).

Adjustment of a corner of a course deviation

Adjustment is made by alignment of corners of convergence of both back. Simultaneous turn of adjusting bolts of both wheels on one division of a scale corresponds to convergence change approximately on 0 °10' (7.5 mm of distance of "L").
